Percy Walker-Smith from Haslemere, will be taking on the incredible challenge of completing a 12 hour non-stop cycle challenge on Thursday 11th June, to raise vital funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Action.

Percy is motivated to complete the challenge in memory of a close family friend, Rod Kohler, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer 2 years ago.

Percy says, “Rod was a very close family friend and a ‘father figure’ to me. He was a family man, an incredible organiser and friend who was loved by many.”

“I have always wanted to challenge myself with a cycling event for Pancreatic Cancer Action since Rod passed away. Now that I have been given a large amount of time to think of the challenge as well as the time to train for it due to the lockdown, I thought that it would be a great time to begin.”

“Therefore, I will be riding my bicycle on Thursday the 11th of June 2020 for 12 hours to raise money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Action. Any support in the form of cheering at the side of the road or donations towards Pancreatic Cancer Action would be greatly appreciated.”

Percy will be doing a route near his house and has invited friends of his and Rod’s to join him for a lap.

Rod founded many different groups including Rod’s Runners, Rod’s Riders and Rod’s Walkers which all still continue as active groups.

The 5-year survival rate of pancreatic cancer is under 8%. It is vital that people are diagnosed early and in time for surgery, currently the only cure.

Pancreatic Cancer Action raise awareness of the signs and symptoms, fund research, provide free information and support to everyone affected by the disease and educate healthcare professionals in how to spot the disease.
