Liam: I’m running the London Marathon for my mum
Liam Batch reached out to PCA after the loss of his Mum to Pancreatic Cancer and has been an amazing supporter, giving up his time and skills to help us in any way that he can. Now he’s going an extra step further and joining Team PCA to run the London Marathon and raise vital funds and awareness.
Ever since my mum passed away a year and a half ago, I’ve felt a duty to do all I can to ensure that I help make a difference so that we can find a way to improve early diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer.
By running the London Marathon, I feel like it’s a great way for me to support this wonderful charity and allow them to carry on the amazing work they do.
It’s such a cruel disease and took my mother away from us just three days before the birth of her first grandchild.
I’m now trying to channel this trauma positively by doing all I can to help this amazing cause.
Before my mum was diagnosed, I had no idea how difficult it is to diagnose early and how poor the outlook generally is due to this. I want to do whatever I can to help make people aware of the early symptoms to ensure the best possible chance of survival.
I passionately believe, along with PCA, that there’s hope. While that is the case, I will do anything possible to help raise money for such an important cause.
For the future of pancreatic cancer, I’d like a cure. But first and foremost, better early diagnosis. If people can be diagnosed earlier, their chances of survival improve dramatically and that would be fantastic.
