Golf captain Peter’s year of fundraising
Peter Meadowcroft kindly chose to fundraise for PCA during his time as Puckrup Hall Golf Club Captain in 2019 and here, he tells us his inspiring story.
Puckrup Hall Golf Club is set in beautiful parkland with magnificent views of the Malvern Hills. Our course presents a good test of golfing abilities for players of all abilities. In 2019 I had the honour of being the Club Captain and have enjoyed my year as Captain.
As my charity for the year, I chose to support Pancreatic Cancer Action. This disease has taken several people I know but it was not until it took my best friend at the age of 57 that I began to take an interest in the research for finding an early diagnosis for pancreatic cancer.
During the year my wife and helpers set up and ran the Half Way House during monthly competitions, several members would bake cakes and savouries for the club golfers. All we asked was a donation towards the charity. Other events we held were monthly quiz nights, a monthly Captain’s draw and several raffles at our major events.
One of my favourite days was my Captain’s Day where the theme was a *Caribbean Twist* with the Half Way House decked out as a rum shack. All the members put on their best Caribbean outfits and we all had a great day.
My Captain’s Year has now ended and I hope the sum collected will help towards the research to find an early diagnosis for pancreatic cancer.
