Charity Jazz night to help the fight against pancreatic cancer

Veronica Perrin and her husband Chris, from Slaggyford, are going to be performing at their own event the ‘Brief Encounter Duo’s Purple Album Gig’ to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer. The event will be held on the 21st October, starting at 8pm, at Morton Community Centre with all profits from the event being donated to National Charity – Pancreatic Cancer Action.

The duo will be playing  music from vintage jazz to 1960s with extra entertainment being provided by swing dancers. There will also be a bar and a raffle. The performance will be recorded live  for their new videos and a CD called ‘ Brief Encounter Duo -The Purple Album’. £1 from each CD sold will be donated to the charity.

Veronica and Chris were inspired to fundraise for the charity by their friend, Andy McKay, who has recently completed a tour of Britain in his Morris Cowely to raise awareness and funds for the charity after losing his wife to the disease.

Veronica says, “I said to Andy McKay that I would support his ‘Happy Henry Fundraising Tour’ by doing a gig especially as I have had 2 friends recently who died of pancreatic cancer. Our duo needs up to date videos and CD so to combine the two is a win-win situation.”

Tickets for the event are £8 and can be booked by calling 01434 381979 or emailing jazztrumpetv@gmail.com.

Pancreatic cancer is the UK’s 5th biggest cancer killer. The survival rate is just 5% which is the lowest of any cancer.

Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.  The charity fund research into early diagnosis, provide medical education programmes, and launch awareness campaigns.

Ali Stunt, Founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action, said: “We are delighted that Veronica and Chris are giving their time to support Pancreatic Cancer Action in this amazing event. We are very sorry to hear that they have been affected by the disease but this is such a fantastic way to raise awareness of the disease.”

“We rely solely on donations from the public and thanks to people like Veronica and Chris that we can continue our vital work. Please back them in in their fundraising efforts so that we can continue research into early diagnosis and raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.”
