November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and today marks the launch of our #DeadlyKiller campaign.
Pancreatic cancer is often called the “silent” or “deadly killer” because its symptoms are vague and easy to confuse with less serious conditions.
The sad reality is that pancreatic cancer remains the deadliest of common cancers in the UK, with only 10-20% of patients being diagnosed in time for potentially life-saving treatment.
Shockingly, half of the people diagnosed with this deadly disease will die within 3 months, and 93% will die within 5 years.
This simply isn’t good enough.
We know symptom awareness levels across the UK are extremely low, so our new #DeadlyKiller campaign calls on the public to learn the symptoms and save lives.
We position pancreatic cancer as a deadly, unknown killer that’s taking lives, with the creative urging people to put together the clues (symptoms) before it’s too late. By being direct, we hope to raise vital awareness and encourage earlier diagnosis.
For those diagnosed in time for potentially life-saving surgery, the 5-year survival increases to around 30%.
Recognising the symptoms early and acting fast could save your life, or the life of someone you love.
By being direct, we hope our #DeadlyKiller campaign does just that.
This campaign was created with, and for, our pancreatic cancer community. This includes survivors and bereaved families, who want the truth about this disease to be heard.
