Winner of the TIP Pharmacy of the Year!
We have been truly amazed by the reaction of pharmacies to our Turn it Purple campaign this year. Thousands of pharmacy employees have taken part in the campaign, and numerous pharmacies have applied to the award. However, there could only be one winner…
We are delighted to announce that the winner of the Turn it Purple Pharmacy of the Year Award 2019 is – Abbotswood Pharmacy in Yate, Bristol.
A number of pharmacies showed inspiring levels of dedication this year, making competition fierce and choosing a winner very difficult. However, once we had considered each applicant’s awareness efforts, social media, decorations, creativity and community reach, Abbotswood stood out from the rest.
2019 Winners: Abbotswood Pharmacy
Abbotswood is an independent pharmacy based in Yate, Bristol. They champion the health of their patients by actively promoting healthy living, and work closely with local surgeries to improve health outcomes.
From 25-30th November Abbotswood ensured that their voices were heard, and that awareness was spread throughout their local area. Using both PCA’s Turn it Purple pack and numerous purple items of their own, they were able to really make the pharmacy stand out. Not only was every wall covered in banners, posters and bunting but the staff even decorated themselves with purple clothing, props and even purple hair. Carl Raven David, who submitted Abbotswood’s application said, ‘This stimulated curiosity to the people in our community and most people joined our photo shoot using our props’.
The team also held a bake sale in store throughout the week helping to raise £88 for PCA. They didn’t just stop there however and chose to put on an awareness stand at their local St. Nicholas Family Centre’s Christmas Fair. Once again using their photo booth and various props to entice member of the public, Carl stated that they were able to ‘further extend their community engagement’.
It was here that the opportunity presented itself to discuss the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer to local MP candidate Claire Young. Also discussing the exciting new research into a potential urine screening tool. This once again demonstrated their inspiring commitment to community engagement and a desire to spread awareness amongst the local community.
