It is estimated that by 2030 there will be over a million people of working age living with cancer. The importance of getting people in the workplace, and their employers, involved in learning about cancer is more important than ever.

Pancreatic cancer, in particular, needs to be highlighted more in the workplace. A recent survey commissioned by Pancreatic Cancer Action shows that, although almost 10,000 people are newly diagnosed with the disease each year in the UK, over 90% of the UK know little to nothing about pancreatic cancer!

A cancer diagnosis can have a real effect on the whole organisation and present challenges, particularly to management teams. It is important that companies are prepared when it comes to support and to be proactive in raising awareness of cancer in the workplace to help improve early diagnosis.

Is your workplace Pancreatic Cancer Aware?

We strongly believe that raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer is key to improving the survival rate because if diagnosed early, chances of survival improve significantly.

This is why we are starting to go into peoples places of work and talk to them about pancreatic cancer; the symptoms and risk factors; how to help a colleague going though a cancer diagnosis; problems surrounding the disease in the UK and how to support Pancreatic Cancer Action.

About the talks

A quote from a Sellafield Ltd employee about Ali Stunt, the CEO and founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action

The founder and CEO of Pancreatic Cancer Action, Ali Stunt, delivers the talks which are usually around an hour. As a rare ten-year survivor of pancreatic cancer, Ali speaks from personal experience.

We use interactive clickers to make the session as interactive and engaging as possible. The audience can take part in answering questions and see their answers on the slides in real time.

The talks not only aim to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer, but also talk about how you can help a colleague going through a cancer diagnosis and how your team can get involved and help us make a difference!
