Volunteers Week – Kerry Irvine’s story
Kerry Irvine, who manages Action 4 Noel, a fund for Pancreatic Cancer Action, is one of our most dedicated volunteers.
Since her husband died of pancreatic cancer almost six years ago, she tirelessly volunteers, campaigns and fundraises to improve the grim survival statistics of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer has just a 5% survival rate and is set to overtake breast cancer to become the fourth biggest cancer killer by 2030.
Kerry’s husband Noel died of pancreatic cancer in 2011. At the time, their children were just 7 and 5. Based in Northern Ireland, she is a Pancreatic Cancer Action rep for the area. She tirelessly works to raise. She not only does a lot to raise the profile of pancreatic cancer in Northern Ireland, including educating GPs, parliamentarians and the general public. She has also set up a support group in other patients. She actively fundraises too and to date she has raised over £50,000 for pancreatic cancer charities. She is truly amazing.
