Turn it Purple for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
It’s PCA’s mission each November to strive towards saving more lives through early diagnosis. This year all funds raised throughout the month will be used to help fund awareness and education amongst the public and healthcare professionals.
Why Turn it Purple with Team PCA?
50,000 people in the UK and 338,000 worldwide are newly diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer each year. Despite this, only 7% of those diagnosed will survive beyond 5 years, making it the UK’s 5th largest cancer killer. In many cases, it can develop unexpectedly with no family connections to the disease.
Early diagnosis is vital in the fight against pancreatic cancer and can significantly increase an individual’s chance of survival. However, almost half of all patients are still diagnosed as an emergency in A&E. By spreading awareness of the signs and symptoms, we know that we can increase the number of people that receive crucial surgery and potentially save lives.
How Can I Take Action?
Pancreatic Awareness Month is the perfect opportunity to unite with family, friends, colleagues and the local community, to draw much needed attention to this devastating disease. You can get involved in many different ways from hosting a bake sale, running a marathon, having a purple fancy dress day, or even just sharing our hashtag #Turnitpurple throughout November.
