We know that primary care professionals play a vital role in spotting potential symptoms of pancreatic cancer to aid early diagnosis, which can significantly improve a patient’s chance of surviving the disease.
However, at Pancreatic Cancer Action, we understand that diagnosis is not always easy. This is why we have developed a section on our pancreaticcanceraware.org website which is specifically for healthcare professionals.
Awareness is needed…
There is a chronic lack of awareness of pancreatic cancer among the public and healthcare professionals:
- According to a public awareness survey carried out by Research Now in February 2017, which was commissioned by us, just 6% of the UK public say they know a lot about pancreatic cancer and its symptoms.
- A mere 3% of GPs admitted to feeling confident and informed about pancreatic cancer and its symptoms. This was according to a survey of 400 GPs carried out by Research Now in October 2015.
