Sara takes on JogJan for PanCan in memory of Father-in-law
Sara Cartwright is taking on JogJan for PanCan in memory of her father-in-law, who sadly passed away from undiagnosed pancreatic cancer 20 years ago. She set off with the intention of raising as much funds and awareness for the disease as possible and has now hit her 100km initial target.
“I decided to sign up for JogJan for PanCan as I lost my father-in-law to this disease over 20 years ago. He died from septicaemia as a complication of pancreatic cancer. (He never knew he had cancer as it wasn’t diagnosed) I feel it is very important to raise awareness about this terrible disease and for doctors and everyone to be aware of the symptoms. I do worry about my husband as he developed type 2 diabetes a number of years ago. I know he worries too.
I’m 56 and started running about 3 years ago. I did Couch 25k and just kept going! I discovered the run/walk method and it’s a great way of keeping physically and mentally fit!
A couple of people I know have had close friends or relatives die from pancreatic cancer.
I’ve really enjoyed doing this challenge and am lucky to have beautiful scenery to run in. Some days were tough with snow and ice!! I’ve also been encouraged by all the support from others doing this too.
Friends and family have been very generous and I’m very grateful for their support and donations.
Thank you for organising such a great challenge for a very worthy cause.”
