Glasgow Awareness Week 2024

We’re excited to announce the first of many new Awareness Week events that will be happening across the UK. From Monday 19th to Sunday 25th August we'll be launching in Glasgow's East End.

Research has highlighted that pancreatic cancer symptom awareness and survival rates are low in the East End of Glasgow, and we need this to change.

We have a variety of exciting awareness and fundraising activities* planned throughout the week in the East End of Glasgow. These include:

  • Monday 19th August – The Glasgow Fort – 10am-8pm*
  • Tuesday 20th August – The Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome – 9am-1pm
  • Wednesday 21st August – Glasgow NE Foodbank in Calton Parkhead Parish Church – 10.30am-12.30pm
  • Thursday 22nd August – The Glasgow Fort – 10am-8pm*
  • Friday 23rd August – Glasgow Royal Infirmary – 9am-1pm

At the Glasgow Fort, we will also have our eye-catching Pan Can Van parked amongst the shops!

Throughout August, we will be also be raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer by distributing a variety of printed materials in the local community:

  • 25,000 pharmacy bags displaying the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer will be distributed through 25 pharmacies.
  • 5,000 coffee cups directing people to our website will be distributed in a number of popular cafes.
  • 30 A4 washroom panels showing the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer will be displayed in a number of popular pubs.

Our activities don’t stop there!

We are also:

  • investing in targeted social media ads to reach the general public and healthcare professionals across Glasgow throughout August – potentially reaching 400,000 people.
  • Having a presence on East End Community Radio throughout the Awareness Week – highlighting the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer at regular intervals.
  • Continuing to distribute our GP and Pharmacy Packs to medical practices and pharmacies throughout the East End of Glasgow. These packs contain bespoke resources to help GPs and pharmacists to recognise the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer in the people they support, and detail what steps to take towards early diagnosis.

Can you help us?

We are looking for volunteers to help us carry out these activities. We need volunteers to support the awareness stands by handing out health information, to help with bucket collections at the Glasgow Fort, and to distribute GP and Pharmacy Packs.

Alternatively, if you have your own idea of how to raise awareness, we would love to hear from you!

Our mission is to educate and inform communities, particularly in areas with less knowledge about pancreatic cancer.

We’ll annouce new dates and locations for additinal nationwide Awareness Weeks soon.
