Control the symptoms of pancreatic cancer

This booklet covers the different procedures used to control pancreatic cancer symptoms with practical information about your hospital visit and returning home. Includes a section about second opinions, clinical trials and questions to ask your doctor and a glossary to explain some of the terms used.

For those attending The Pharmacy Show in October, make sure to keep an eye out for two familiar faces. Pancreatic Cancer Action’s own Health Policy & Projects Manager, Joe Kirwin, and Marketing & Communications Manager, Adele Carter, will be showcasing all the great work we do as a charity from our stand at D02!

Pharmacy Show

The Pharmacy Show is the largest sourcing and networking event for pharmacy professionals in the UK, giving our team an opportunity to not only spread awareness of Pancreatic Cancer Action but inform on the disease.

Play Your Part

We believe that pharmacy teams and the community team play an integral role in the early detection of pancreatic cancer. Pharmacists and their support staff are well-placed to identify key signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer by engaging with patients and taking into account the medications prescribed and brought over the counter. Spotting symptoms early and signposting to a GP can significantly improve a patient’s chance of survival.

Pancreatic Cancer five-year survival rates haven’t changed significantly in the past 50-years, let alone the last 10. That’s why we’re asking pharmacy teams to help us to increase awareness in our decade of change. Our goal is to increase the five-year pancreatic cancer survival rate from 7.9% to 13% by 2030.

How You Can Play Your Part

At The Pharmacy Show, our team will be informing pharmacists on how they can play their part in the decade of change. This includes increasing knowledge on symptoms through our free e-learning module, stocking our Patient Information Booklets, and our whole other range of pharmacy resources!

Turn it Purple Pharmacy of the Year Award

We’ll also be using The Pharmacy Show 2021 to promote the Turn it Purple Pharmacy of the Year Award. This award will go to the pharmacy team that demonstrates the best commitment to both raising awareness of pancreatic cancer amongst the public but to further their own education on pancreatic cancer. You can click here to order your FREE Turn it Purple Pharmacy pack. Submissions open on Thursday, November 18 and are due by the 10th of December!

The winner will be given a certificate of recognition to display in their pharmacy and be showcased on Pancreatic Cancer Action’s social media channels, website, newsletter and Action Magazine!
