Martina raises funds and awareness at her local GP surgery…

One of our wonderful supporters and fundraisers, Martina Akrill, tells us a bit about how her experience raising awareness of pancreatic cancer at her local GP surgery:

“6 hours of my time donated today at The Ridings Medical Group in Brough, East Riding of Yorkshire raising awareness about the early signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer and the support available to people from local cancer charities such as Team Verrico who helped my Son with bereavement counselling when he lost his Dad to pancreatic cancer last year.

£37.69 was raised for Pancreatic Cancer Action at the surgery from the sale of wristbands, homemade hearts, selling cakes to staff and simple support and generosity from the local community.

So many people shared their own personal experiences and one person talked about how their own relative has been ‘fobbed off’ recently by their own GP so took some resources to use to try and convince them otherwise.

Feeling proud because I made this happen. A community that’s more aware of the symptoms might just help one person. I am running the London marathon for this amazing charity on 23rd April 2017 and I’m so excited.
