The Just Employment Law Summer Ball
In 2016, David McRae, Managing Director of Just Employment Law, our charity partner, experienced unimaginable tragedy. His mother was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in December 2015, and just six months later, she passed away on the day of David’s 39th birthday. Only a few months before, during a final family holiday abroad arranged by his mother, David’s brother, Colin, also unexpectedly passed away.

David’s mother spent her last few months not only battling her illness but also grieving the devastating loss of her son. These profound personal losses led David to channel his grief into action, giving birth to the Just Employment Law Summer Ball – a fundraising event dedicated to supporting the fight against pancreatic cancer.
A Night of Purpose and Generosity
The first Just Employment Law Summer Ball took place in 2017 at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow, with 500 attendees raising an incredible £60,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Action. Since then, the event has grown year after year, with the most recent ball in 2023 raising an astonishing £125,000. To date, this initiative has raised £400,000, all directed towards combating this devastating disease.
Pancreatic cancer is often called the “silent killer” due to its subtle and easily overlooked symptoms. Recognising these signs is crucial for early diagnosis and better survival outcomes. Some of the key symptoms include:
- Persistent indigestion or heartburn
- Abdominal pain or discomfort, especially in the upper abdomen or back
- Unexplained weight loss
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
- Changes in bowel habits
- New-onset diabetes
The Just Employment Law Summer Ball is more than just a glamorous event – it is a heartfelt tribute to David’s mother and brother. It is an evening where grief is transformed into generosity, where people come together not only to celebrate life but to support a cause that has the potential to save lives in the future.

Join Us at This Year’s Summer Ball
This year, the Just Employment Law Summer Ball will once again take place at the prestigious Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Saturday, 14th June 2025. The evening promises to be a spectacular affair, featuring a star-studded lineup, a red-carpet welcome, and a live auction with incredible prizes, including the famous star prize. Guests will enjoy a luxurious three-course meal, high-energy performances, and the chance to bid on exclusive auction items – all in support of Pancreatic Cancer Action.
The event is a perfect blend of glitz, glamour, and a deeply meaningful purpose – to raise vital funds for pancreatic cancer research and awareness.
“When my brother died suddenly, following our mum’s terminal diagnosis, our whole world came crashing down. The shock was so intense, it was difficult to even put one step in front of the other. The first ball gave me a purpose to carry on, and to help raise awareness for pancreatic cancer, while also honouring my mum and brother with a fabulous party. I will always look forward to the occasion.”
