Ideas for students to GET INVOLVED in Turn it Purple

It’s a well-known fact that students aren’t particularly wealthy, but it doesn’t mean they can’t GET INVOLVED with Turn It Purple. We’ve put together a guide for universities and students alike to get involved with our #TurnItPurple campaign during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

Bake It Purple

Who doesn’t love cake? So why not have a bake sale and Bake It Purple! If you’re stuck for ideas on what to make, we have some recipe ideas for you here. We also have our very own Pinterest board with a host of ideas for you to be inspired by. Don’t forget to order your PCA cake toppers here!

Drink It Purple

Why not get inventive by making some purple cocktails or mocktails for an alcoholic alternative? We recommend a Violet Martini or a Purple Cosmopolitan. For an alcoholic alternative, we recommend using Monin Lavender Syrup to create a nice floral twist to mocktails (Or even cocktails), teas, sparklings and sodas. Charge a little more than you usually would and then donate the extra money raised.

Wear It Purple

You can wear purple for the whole month of November or just one purple item to help create discussion and raise awareness. Some people paint their nails purple for the month or even colour their hair purple! If you don’t quite fancy a whole month of wearing purple, then why not hold a Wear It Purple day instead. Good days to wear purple are 1st November to mark the start of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and 16th November which is World Pancreatic Cancer Day.

Pot Luck Dinner Party

Have you got food in your cupboard that needs using up but not sure what to do with it? Why not try hosting a pot luck dinner party? It can be a great way for students to not only socialise with their friends but also try different foods and get inventive with what they have in their cupboards. Ask your friends to donate a small fee for hosting and then donate the funds raised.

Party It Purple (Student purple themed night)

Hold a night in your student union where students have to come wearing something purple, whether it’s just something purple or purple fancy dress, get as inventive as you like! You could also use our Turn It Purple props and selfie frames to take photos with. You could then charge a little more than you usually would for tickets or donate the cost of all tickets from that night to charity.

Frock Swap

Students can’t always afford new clothes so instead of them throwing out all their old clothes that they no longer wear, why not host a Frock Swap in your student union? Set a small donation fee for students to bring down all their unwanted clothes. They then get rid of unwanted clothing, potentially gain new clothing and have contributed to a good charitable cause.

Game It Purple (Games/Quiz Night)

With the rising popularity of boardgames, why not allow students to host a boardgames night in an available room? Set a donation fee for students to attend and then allow them to bring however many boardgames they like. You could also host a quiz night that allows students to embrace their general and obscure trivia knowledge.

Whatever you decide to do, don’t forget to use the hashtag #TurnItPurple or send us some photos of what you get up to – we would love to see them!
