How to Host a Successful Cake or Bake Sale

Hosting a cake or bake sale is a fun and delicious way to raise money for a good cause. With a little planning and a dash of creativity, you’ll be on your way to a sweet success. Here’s our step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Pancreatic Cancer Action
  1. Choose Your Location

First things first, decide where you’re going to hold your bake sale. Great options include:

  • Your school.
  • Your workplace.
  • A local community centre.
  • Your home.

If the event isn’t at your home, be sure to get the proper permissions from the venue.

  1. Pick the Perfect Time

The best time for your bake sale depends on your location:

  • Workplace: Morning coffee breaks or lunchtime are ideal.
  • Community centre: Try evenings or weekends when more people are free.
  • Schools: After school pick-up times can work well.

And remember, nothing catches the eye like a purple-themed bake sale!

  1. Spread the Word

Once you’ve nailed down the details, start promoting your event:

  • Use social media.
  • Put up posters in your school, office, or local shops.
  • Ask friends and family to share it with their networks.

  1. Set Up Your Fundraising

Will you be accepting cash, digital donations, or both?

  • Online fundraising: Set up a JustGiving page here and download your unique QR code. It’s perfect for printing and displaying at your stall, or keep it on your phone for easy scanning.
  • Cash donations: Don’t forget to order one of our official collection boxes here.
  1. Start Baking!

The more variety, the better. Ask others to contribute their signature bakes. Here are some crowd-pleasers:

  • Traybakes – easy to portion and serve.
  • Cakes – classic and sliceable.
  • Cupcakes – always a hit, especially with purple icing!
  • Cookies – one dough, many flavours!

Plan ahead for how you’ll transport and display your baked goods.

  1. Label Everything Clearly

Always list ingredients, and be mindful of allergies and dietary needs:

  • Label items as vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, or contains nuts.
  • Clear labels show thoughtfulness and help everyone feel included.
  1. Don’t Forget the Extras

Consider the full setup:

  • Tablecloths, napkins, or flowers to make your stall look inviting.
  • A float with change. (very important!)
  • Will you price items or ask for a suggested donation?
  • Drinks like tea and coffee? Maybe a few savoury items?

And for bonus fun, add a mini game like:

  • Guess the cake weight.
  • How many sprinkles in the jar?

Decorate your table with items from our shop, balloons, bunting, banners, and more. Download your cake flags and printable decorations here.
