Caroline runs Great North Run for her dad who is battling pancreatic cancer

The amazing Caroline Tweddle ran the Great North Run last weekend to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and to support her father, who is currently battling the disease.

Caroline said: “After months of visits to the GP and hospital appointments for various investigations my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2014.

Soon after we found out that they couldn’t operate as the tumour was too involved with the major vessels. He had chemotherapy to try and reduce it enough for surgery, but it didn’t work, and at this point were told that surgery was not ever going to be an option. In the summer of 2015 he had further chemotherapy but with radiotherapy also.

This was very tough, and he was very unwell with it, but I have never seen anyone more determined to complete something in all my life! And then came along the Great North Run….and I thought if he can go through what he has been trough, with many other obstacles and very hard times along the way, then I can do it!!

This is what I thought about for 13.1 miles and it kept me running the whole way! I was very worried that I wouldn’t manage to raise the £300 needed, so I am absolutely blown away to have raised over £1750 so far via my just giving page and cash donations.

My hope is that this money will be used for research/education/raising awareness of pancreatic cancer, and that it will mean earlier diagnosis rates will be higher, and more people can beat this awful disease.”
