Raising awareness at the Pharmacy Show 2024
On 13-14th October 2024, Pancreatic Cancer Action exhibited at the Pharmacy Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
We believe that pharmacists and their teams are best placed to recognise the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer in the regular customer base that they support. From back pain, to indigestion, to nausea there are many reasons to visit a pharmacist when experiencing the first signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer. Equipped with the right skills, pharmacists and their teams can recommend that patients visit their GP if they suspect pancreatic cancer.
The Pharmacy Show is the UK’s largest dedicated trade show and education conference designed for the community and primary care pharmacy sector. This means it was the perfect opportunity to promote our new and improved eLearning module for community pharmacists and their teams!
We had the chance to catch up with our Pharmacist Ambassador, Ade Williams. Here is what he has had to say about our new eLearning module:
“Community Pharmacy is now well acknowledged as a cornerstone of equitable NHS Care. As the most accessible delivery point of healthcare, with innumerable daily contacts, care interactions and conversations, this is why evidence indicates that improving earlier pancreatic cancer diagnoses requires the Community Pharmacy team. Earlier diagnoses saves lives and improves treatment outcomes. This training resource, provided by Pancreatic Cancer Action, who have long championed the role and expertise of Community Pharmacy Teams including the wider pharmacy profession now embedded across the NHS footprint, helps provide the knowledge and expertise needed. Please do take some time to complete the e-learning module, so that together we will help save lives.”
Across the two days, we interacted with hundreds of pharmacists, pharmacy owners, students and many others! We spoke to over 20 people who shared their personal experiences of pancreatic cancer, and we want to thank them for coming to speak to us.
We also had the privilege of educating those who had never heard of the disease or were unaware of the symptoms. Visitors were able to ask questions, understand more about pancreatic cancer and the vital work that we do as a charity.
Exhibiting at the Pharmacy Show has also allowed us to establish new relationships with potential corporate partners, pharmacists who want to raise awareness within their community, and pharmacists who want to Turn It Purple!
These opportunities to meet healthcare professionals face-to-face is vital in raising awareness of pancreatic cancer. We couldn’t afford to exhibit at the Pharmacy Show without your generous donations and fundraising support.
