Our Marathon Runners: Chris Norkett

Chris Norkett, 51, from Alton, will be taking on the 2018 London Marathon in memory of his beloved brother, Tim, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Chris Norkett will be taking part in six marathons this year for Pancreatic Cancer ActionChris started running as part of a weight loss and fitness programme in August 2015 and has since found his passion for the roads. He has put his hobby to fantastic use by running the London marathon for National charity – Pancreatic Cancer Action.

Chris, the Alton Sports Ambassador says, “early last year we lost my brother Tim to pancreatic cancer. The impact this has had on his family has obviously been quite profound.

Raising money for Pancreatic Cancer Action is my chance to draw a line in the sand and to start fighting back on behalf of my family.

This year I’ll be running a half marathon, two full marathons (including London) and three ultra marathons in memory of Tim and to raise awareness and funds for Pancreatic Cancer Action”.

Pancreatic cancer is the UK’s 5th biggest cancer killer. The survival rate is just 5% which is the lowest of any cancer.

Pancreatic Cancer Action is committed to working towards earlier diagnosis of the disease so that surgery, currently the only cure, is made available to the sufferer.  The charity fund research into early diagnosis, provide medical education programmes, and launch awareness campaigns.

Ali Stunt, Founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action, said: “The survival rates of pancreatic cancer have stayed the same for too long. Seeing how the disease affects families like Chris’ reminds us how we cannot let this continue.

We are so honoured to have Chris running for us and are grateful for all the races he is completing for us. We rely solely on donations from the public and it’s thanks to people like Chris that we can continue our vital work”.
