5 tips for fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in lockdown
COVID-19 has had a massive impact on fundraising this year and there are now restrictions in place that mean a lot of ‘traditional’ fundraising can’t take place.
However, you support is needed more than ever and there is still a lots you can do to raise funds this November and beyond!
Here are some helpful hints on what you could do;
1. Walk/Run/Get Active!
Getting out for fresh air and exercise is exceptionally important. So, to give yourself a little extra motivation in these winter months and set a distance and a time and get active!
Set a challenge; 10,000 steps a day, 26 miles a week or 2,000 push ups in November!
Create a fundraising page here.
Let your family, friends and colleagues know and get started!
2. Share the #PurpleHeart
Share our #PurpleHeart poster to raise awareness during the November!
You can download a #purpleHeart poster here or order one by emailing Fundraising@panact.org
Take a photo and share on your social media! #PurpleHeart
3. Have fun and make people smile!
As someone who dyed their hair purple at the weekend, I set out to raise smiles and awareness among my friends on social media. Fundraising was a little bonus, I asked friends to consider donating a few pounds if they could, if I had made them smile. Rather amazingly I have now raised £320!
The first 3 letters in fundraising spell FUN
So what could you do to raise some smiles? We all need one right now!
- Could you dye/shave your hair or beard?
- Wear a rival teams top for a month?
- Post a video of you telling a joke a day on social media?
Have a think about what you could do to make people smile. And you’ll smile too ?.
4. Bring people together… online
We all need to look out for each other and people always appreciate company. If you can’t get together with family and friends in person, then why not arrange to do it online?
You could have a quiz, tell jokes, dress up, wear purple, watch a film together, watch a football game together, have dinner together, or a cuppa, or a beer, or glass of wine, or gin … or whatever your tipple is

People always appreciate someone who makes an effort to get people together.
5. Focus on wellbeing
One of our supporters has organised for her team of 30 colleagues to walk/jog/run over 600-miles from 1st November – 19th November. It ensures people get outside (or at the very least that they get away from their screens) to focus on exercise and wellbeing.
Could you get a group of neighbours to complete 1,000lengths of your street? Or 1,000 laps of your block? Or involve family / friends / colleagues
Focus on how good it will be for you and them AND it will help raise funds and awareness.
Tell people why
Whatever you decide to do, tell people WHY you are doing it. Let them know your story, let them know what difference their support will make.
Our vision is that the 2020’s will be the decade of change for pancreatic cancer.
- We WILL increase awareness
- That WILL lead to more people being diagnosed earlier
- And that WILL save lives, that WILL give people more time with loved ones, that WILL give hope
Let them know that Pancreatic Cancer Action works with GP’s and Pharmacies to educate healthcare professionals, as we know that WILL help with earlier diagnosis.
