1,233km – Cycle The Rhine!

David How 8Bob Marchbank was 59 years old when he died from pancreatic cancer. His prognosis, like for many, came too late.

Eight months before Bob died David How, Mark Stock and Bob had decided on their next challenge – to cycle the entire length of the river Rhine. Sadly for Bob this was not to be, but Mark and David, supported by their good friend Chris Middleton, set off to complete this big challenge on 2nd June 2015.

David said “Mark and I successfully reached the end of the Rhine at The Hook of Holland on Saturday 13 June.  We had flown out to Zurich with our bikes on 2 June and then took various trains to arrive in Andermatt late afternoon. We rode across Oberlapppass 2044m and descended 20kms down the other side for our first night.David How 11

We rode between 120 and 170 kms for the next eleven days following the Rhine through Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, France, Germany and Holland. We covered a total of 1458kms. We burnt a lot of calories and drank a lot of beer.”

Chris very kindly drove out to meet them on Saturday at the Hook which was a great way to finish.
