12 hour ‘Jive Marathon’ in memory of beloved friend

Karen Jaines, dance teacher from Louth, organised a 12 hour jive marathon to raise vital funds for Pancreatic Cancer Action in memory of her friend she lost to pancreatic cancer in 2017.

The event started at 9am on Saturday 23rd March at The Mayfair Club with the Rock ‘n’ Roll band ‘The Tailfins’ performing in the evening. The jive marathon had a tremendous amount of support from the community and has raised £3,000!

Karen has organised many fundraising events in the past but was motivated to hold the jive, with the help of her fellow dance teacher Mike, after her friend sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2017 just 2 months after his diagnosis.

Karen says, “Our was to make people more aware and not to ignore symptoms. If we can help that 1 person, it would mean everything to us.”

“We had the most amazing day supported by our family, friends and our lovely dancers who came along to keep us going.”

“Karen put together such an amazing event and raised an incredible amount of money towards saving lives through early diagnosis!”

Without the help of people like Karen and Mike, we couldn’t continue the vital work that we do and we are so grateful” – Lucy De’Lemos, fundraising manager at PCA
