This year we are determined to reach more people than ever with our early diagnosis message and have provided resources for you to help us achieve this. We know that pancreatic cancer can affect everyone, but not everyone has the same outcomes from the disease.
We know that pancreatic cancer is affected by intersecting inequality. Black people, those living in socioeconomically deprived areas and older adults face greater exposure to risk factors, barriers to presentation and often present in the later stages of their disease as an emergency. We want to reach these people with pancreatic cancer messaging and ensure that everyone has the same opportunities and outcomes, but we need your help to do so.
We believe that pharmacists and their teams, are well placed to identify key signs of pancreatic cancer and help reach more people. Customers with vague symptoms and barriers presenting may attend their pharmacy before or instead of their GP. Pharmacists play a vital role in early diagnosis thorough customer interaction and medicines prescribed or bought over the counter. Spotting the symptoms early and signposting to a GP, can significantly improve a patient’s chance of survival.
