Turn it Purple Pharmacy of the Year Award

The Turn it Purple Pharmacy of the Year Award are back for 2022! This year we invited pharmacies to participate yet again to raise awareness of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer with their patients and to increase their own learning.

Turn it Purple

Pancreatic cancer suffers from a chronic lack of awareness across the UK. Turn it Purple is a fun way to engage with your pharmacy team, patients, and your local community and raise much-needed awareness of pancreatic cancer. Doing so can help you meet the quality criteria to achieve and maintain a Healthy living Pharmacy status. But, best of all, a chance to win the Turn it Purple Pharmacy of the Year 2022 award.

One of our previous winners, Knights Oakwood Pharmacy Birstall, said their driving force behind them taking part was:

“If our awareness campaign saves just one life, then our campaign will have been a success.”

You could win…

  • Turn it Purple Pharmacy of the Year Award.
  • Publicity in leading pharmacy magazines which will be received by all UK pharmacies.
  • Feature in our Action Magazine and Turn it Purple resources in 2023.
  • And more

How to take part – Entires not open yet!

  1. Order your free Turn it Purple Pharmacy pack: This includes everything you need to get you started. Including an award toolkit, awareness materials, fun props and much more!
  2. Refresh your knowledge of pancreatic cancer: One or more members of the pharmacy team must take our NPA accredited learning module on pancreatic cancer to be eligible for the award. It takes just 10 minutes to complete and there is one for pharmacists and for pharmacy team members.
  3. Raise awareness (and funds if you like) of pancreatic cancer within your pharmacy and your local community.
  4. Be creative (wear it purple, hair it purple, light it purple, knit it purple, print it purple).
  5. Engage with your local politicians, media outlets, local businesses and other connections and stakeholders about the Turn it Purple Pharmacy Awards.

How to enter

Entries are now open and close on Friday 9th December. You can use this example marking criteria which will be used to evaluate your efforts and provides an indication of what we’ll be looking for this year.

Email the team to find out more Turnitpurple@panact.org

Why enter the award?

Only 7.3% of pancreatic cancer patients in the UK will survive five years after their diagnosis, and only 1% will survive beyond ten years. However, we know that those diagnosed early and in time for surgery have an increased 5-year survival rate of around 30%. This is only possible when people experiencing symptoms present early.

And we firmly believe that pharmacists and their teams are well placed to identify key signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer through customer interaction and medicines prescribed or bought over the counter.

This November, you can help us improve awareness of pancreatic cancer by turning your pharmacy purple and creating a buzz in your local community.
