Pancreatic Cancer Action Funds Pancreatic Cancer Surgery Enhanced Recovery Project

pancreatic cancer surgeryPancreatic Cancer Action is pleased to announce that we are funding a unique project for pancreatic cancer which is being run by the specialist HPB team at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

The enhanced recovery programme for pancreatic surgery is about improving the outcome of surgery, speeding up recovery period and reducing complications after surgery. This type of treatment plan has been introduced in several areas of surgery other than pancreatic and has been shown to allow a dramatic reduction in the patient’s length of stay in hospital and also the number of patients who suffer from complications after major surgery.

This project is anticipated to provide evidence that early nutritional intervention as part of enhanced recovery protocol can reduce length of stay and can get patients to their adjuvant chemotherapy faster and in better shape. This has the potential to save lives.

The Royal Surrey County Hospital is a specialist centre for pancreatic cancer.
