Pancreatic Cancer Action

How you are raising funds for us!

Here we list some of the people who have been fundraising for us and the type of events they have arranged. The reasons why people are fundraising are often very personal and can be incredibly moving. Some supporters have put on evening events, others have set themselves a challenge. However all are inspirational and we are very grateful to everybody who has raised much needed funds for Pancreatic Cancer Action and getting those important awareness messages out about pancreatic cancer into their own communities and beyond.

Don’t forget to send us your pictures and stories so we can add your event to this page!

A BIG thank you to all our supporters!

RBS Corporate Dynamos cycled 165 miles

165 mile cycle raises nearly £15,000

On Friday 8th July until Sunday 10th July 2011, nine colleagues from the Royal Bank of Scotland cycled a total of 165 miles at an average speed of 12 mph to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and much needed funds for Pancreatic Cancer Action. The team, calling themselves the “Corporate Dynamos”, cycled from Banbury Cross to Charing Cross (London, not Glasgow!) via national cycle routes.

Brain Stevenson, one of the Dynamos said “We are absolutely delighted with the publicity that has been generated for Pancreatic Cancer Action and with the outstanding generosity of all of our friends and supporters.  If you haven’t yet donated the site is still open at:https://www.charitiestrust.org/members_data/event/corporate_dynamos/index.html ”

The route had been specially chosen to enable the team to visit the home of a very dear colleague, Wendy Butler who has been diagnosed with metastatic (spread to other organs) pancreatic cancer at the age of 55. Wendy has always looked after herself, exercised regularly and eaten a very healthy diet  - she had no idea about her condition until it was diagnosed following a routine health check.

The Corporate Dynamos include: Nick Bailey, Sarah Berry, John Lyons, Iain Cullens, Simon Eacott, Jo Towers, Brian Stevenson, Chris Allen and Katie Warrington

All of us here at Pancreatic Cancer Action are very grateful to all the Corporate Dynamos, their colleagues, friends, family members and to all others who are being so supportive of PCA and for going a long way to raise much needed awareness of pancreatic cancer.

Golf Day and Evening Event in Memory of Joe Walton

Golf day plus evening event raised £3,058 for Pancreatic Cancer Action

“My dad, Joe Walton, was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer at the age of 44 in march 2010. It was found too late as it had already spread to his liver and back. He had every sign of the cancer but the doctors ignored him, and diagnosed him with sciatica. They also missed it on the first MRI scan. He was really let down, and was allowed to be in awful pain for 5 months. They tried to control his pain with chemo, but this just made it worse. We lost him 8 weeks later in the May. The NHS admitted to negligence.”

“We held the memorial event at Huntswood Golf Club, Burnham. A golf event was held during the day, and around 130 guests arrived for the evening event. We raised money by selling tickets for the event which included a DJ and buffet. We also held a raffle and an auction which included donated gifts.”

“We wanted to hold this event to help make a difference. There is not enough awareness for this awful disease, and I need to be a part of making that change.”

Paige Bishop, June 2011

Our thanks to Paige, her family and friends for putting on the event and helping to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.

Walkers & Talkers

Eight fabulous ladies took on the South Downs Walk in May 2011.

Calling themselves the “Walkers & Talkers” they did just that and nattered their way around the 37 mile walk! Splitting their sponsorship money between three charities they had a connection to, a stunning £1,800 was raised for Pancreatic Cancer Action alone.

The ladies used Charity Giving to collect their sponsorship for all charities via their personalised page.

Well done ladies!

Just Walk 2011

Cherrie Carter walked 37 miles across the South Downs in May, raising an amazing £1261.00 for PCA

Cherrie raised the sponsorship via her VirginMoneyGiving page. Her employers, The Royal Bank of Scotland operates a Community Cashback scheme as part of their Corporate Responsibility Programme and this means we will get a little more from them too!

This scheme  encourages staff to get involved in volunteering and fundraising and rewards them for giving their time, efforts and skills – with awards for their charity or organisation ranging from £100 to £1,000.

If you’re doing a sponsored event for us or are thinking of giving us a donation, please ask your employer if they have a charity matching or simliar scheme.
