Pancreatic Cancer Action

How we are spending the money

Our mission is to increase awareness of pancreatic cancer and help educate both the public and medical communities about the disease with the express aim that more are diagnosed in time for surgery – currently the only potential for a cure.

Information booklets for pancreatic cancer patients, their families and friends

With any exciting research developments likely to take at least 15-20 years before they reach the clinical environment, we need to take action now to tackle the very low survival rates for the disease.

Educational and awareness campaigns have been instrumental in driving new investment into other cancers such as breast, bowel and prostate. These diseases are now better understood, better treated and, as a result, survival rates have improved significantly: breast cancer 5 year survival has doubled over the past 40 years whereas pancreatic cancer 5 year survival rates have remained the same (only 3%) over the same period.

Pancreatic Cancer Action is using the funds you raise to provide:

  • Free information and publications about pancreatic cancer for patients and their families;
  • We are working with the Royal College of General Practitioners to develop free accredited (through Continuing Professional Development system [CPD]) online Interactive Learning Tools for GPs and diagnosing doctors – to help them spot the disease earlier and manage the condition better;
  • Free trainee GP educational lectures/materials – so new GPs are better aware of the disease before they start practicing;
  • Pancreatic Cancer health awareness campaigns nationally and in the community;
  • Research into the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (when we have the funding to do so).

All with the principle aim of improving survival rates and “Changing the Numbers” for pancreatic cancer

We currently do not have enough funds to complete all these projects.

Your donation therefore is vital to ensure we can carry on with this work.

Thank you.
